Kirsten Helgeland holds degrees in piano performance from the Eastman School of Music and the College-Conservatory of Music of the University of Cincinnati. She also holds a Ph.D. in musicology from the University of Cincinnati. During her seven-year tenure at Gordon College, she was an active faculty member, instructing lecture courses in music history and theory, teaching piano, coaching instrumentalists and vocalists, and serving as accompanist for the Gordon College Children's Choir and Symphonic Chorale. She currently works in the summer with the Gordon College Masters of Music Education program, teaching music history.
She began to serve as accompanist to the Newburyport Choral Society in Spring 2005, and also as Music Director and Organist at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, in Beverly, Massachusetts. Dr. Helgeland has performed many recitals in Ohio, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Illinois. She has presented lecture-recitals to the American Musicological Society, the College Music Society, and the Society for American Music. She has appeared as a guest artist on WGBH-Radio's Chamberworks. Before opening Studio K, Dr. Helgeland worked as Organist and Choirmaster in Cincinnati, Ohio, a public school music teacher in Massachusetts, and as a faculty member at Gordon College. In 2018, Dr. Helgeland received a Top Teacher award from Steinway & Sons. She is thrilled to have received such an honor! |
